Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a form of Physiotherapy carried out in water. We use an underwater treadmill which means your pet will be walking through the water rather than swimming. This strengthens functional muscles and allows us to target exactly the areas needing work.
Hydrotherapy is very useful after orthopaedic surgery, but is also used for overweight and arthritic patients to aid weight loss and mobility. All cases need to be referred by a Vet- please ask!

FAQ:

  • Do I stay for the duration of the session?

This depends on the patient, some dogs are happier if you are there, but sometimes they concentrate better with the owner out of sight!

  • Do I need to bring anything with me?

Bringing a favourite toy or treat can help motivate your dog. A towel or blanket for the car journey home is advised, as they may still be a bit damp.

  • How much does it cost?

Initial assessment £47 (1 hour), Follow Up sessions £40 (45 minutes)

  • Will my Insurance Policy cover the cost?

All insurance policies are different and we recommend you check directly with them. Please advise them that we are members of The Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA)

  • How often will I need to bring my pet?

Each patient varies, initially weekly or twice weekly sessions are recommended. Fortnightly or monthly visits are used to maintain improvements in long term patients.

Other key information:

  • Do not feed you dog for 2 hours before or after hydrotherapy
  • Please make sure your pet has gone to the toilet prior to their session. There is a charge for defecating in the water due to the down time required to clean the system before it can be used again
  • On arrival please check in at Reception and wait there, or in your car until you are called in. We can only treat one patient at a time and need to give them 100% of our care and attention!
